Book Review: If I stay by Gayle Forman

Feels like I haven't done a book review in a long time. Today I'm going to review this book that has been out for a while. Enjoy!

Just listen, Adam says with a voice that sounds like shrapnel.

I open my eyes wide now.
I sit up as much as I can.
And I listen.

Stay, he says.

Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones: Stay true to her first love—music—even if it means losing her boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind?

Then one February morning Mia goes for a drive with her family, and in an instant, everything changes. Suddenly, all the choices are gone, except one. And it's the only one that matters.

If I Stay is a heartachingly beautiful book about the power of love, the true meaning of family, and the choices we all make.

 My review
Oh boy, i liked the first chapter, I liked it a lot actually.
But I think the story should’ve been told from someone else’s point of view. I mean, Mia is unconscious for 85% of the book. She can see everything that’s going on, but she just stays at the hospital and has flashbacks and relives memories.

I don’t think it was “heartachingly beautiful.” It was just something I was reading since I want to see the movie (which I hope will be a lot better.)

If I would’ve just read the first and last chapter, I wouldn’t have missed much.

I didn’t even cry, honestly. But the only book that HAS ever made me cry was TFIOS.

I wish the story was told from her boyfriend’s point of view, that would’ve been way more interesting to read about his reaction to finding out Mia had gotten in a wreck, him coming to the hospital, him leaving the hospital and what he did when he wasn’t with her at the hospital. It just would’ve been more eventful to hear about how he suffered I think. But I’m pretty sure “Where She Went” which is the second book, is from her boyfriend’s point of view, so I’ll give that one a shot.

I’m terribly sorry if you are a huge fan of this and you expected me to love it as well, but it was a bit bland, I like really complicated plots, and this plot wasn’t that great.

The characters were really cool though; it was kind of intriguing to read about their personalities and different but similar loves for music.

Regardless, I’m going to have to give this book 3 stars.
